Retaining wall installation in Northern Utah

We build boulder retaining walls for slopes, grade changes, runoff, and usable ground across the Wasatch Front and Back.

Retaining wall contractor

The wall starts below and behind what you see

A retaining wall must support the grade while giving water a path out. The base, drainage, backfill, and surrounding slope all affect how the wall holds.

Lost Creek Contracting installs retaining walls as part of the complete site. We assess the soil, water movement, grade change, equipment access, and intended use of the finished area.

We excavate and compact the base, plan drainage behind the wall, place backfill in lifts, and shape the finished grade around it.

Installation scope

Retaining wall work from excavation through finish grade

The exact scope follows the site and any project plans. These are the parts we can handle as one site-work crew.

Boulder retaining walls
Heavy boulder walls for grade changes, slope support, and more usable ground.
Base preparation
Excavation, base material, and compaction before the first wall material is placed.
Drainage & backfill
Gravel backfill, drainage, and compacted lifts that help relieve water pressure behind the wall.
Finish grading
Grading around the completed wall to connect it with the surrounding slope and intended use.
Installation process

How we approach a retaining wall project

Walk the property
We look at the grade change, soil, runoff, nearby structures, and access for equipment and material.
Confirm the scope
We review the wall location, intended use, drainage needs, and any plans or local requirements that apply.
Excavate and build
We prepare the base, place the wall material, install drainage, and backfill as the wall comes up.
Shape the finished site
We complete the backfill and grade the ground around the wall for the planned use and water path.

FAQ

Retaining wall installation questions

What kinds of retaining walls do you install?
We build boulder and site-built retaining walls for grade changes, slope support, and usable outdoor areas. The site visit helps us understand the slope, soil, access, drainage, and intended use before recommending an approach.
What is included in retaining wall installation?
Our work can include excavation, base preparation, drainage, backfill placed and compacted in lifts, and finish grading around the wall. The exact scope depends on the plans and site conditions.
How much does retaining wall installation cost?
Cost depends on wall height and length, material, soil, drainage, equipment access, excavation, and the amount of material that must be brought in or hauled away. We inspect the property before preparing an estimate.
Does a retaining wall need engineering or a permit?
Requirements vary by city or county and can depend on wall height, slope, property lines, and nearby loads. The local building authority and, when required, an engineer determine what the project needs. We can discuss the site conditions during the estimate.
Can a retaining wall help with runoff and erosion?
A retaining wall can support a grade change, but water still needs a path away from the wall. We plan the base, gravel backfill, drainage, and surrounding grade together so water pressure does not build behind the wall.
Where do you install retaining walls?
We work across Ogden, Morgan, Mountain Green, Huntsville, Eden, Layton, Salt Lake City, Park City, and other communities along the Wasatch Front and Back.
